Aleksandr Petrovsky is a recurring character in season six of "Sex and the City". A wealthy and accomplished older Russian artist, he is Carrie Bradshaw's final relationship before she ultimately settles down with Mr. Big.

Biography[]

Born in Russia, he emerged as a prominent figure in the American art scene in the 1970s. Petrovksy's work spans from abstract impressionism to large-scale installations created in the 1980s. His magnum opus, "Life Unbound," is an obelisk resembling a spider web, a form previously unseen in American art. A book titled "Aleksandr Petrovsky: Metal and Canvas" was written about him. Notable exhibitions of his work were held at the National Gallery of Art in 1982, the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1991, and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao shortly before the sixth season.

A bon vivant, Petrovsky's charisma has led to numerous relationships with women. Vanity Fair writer Paige Bishop once wrote an article about his many loves, calling him a "contemporary Lothario" and noting that he had "as many women in his bed as there are colors on his palette." He had a brief but intense relationship with a woman named Tabby Randall, and a seven-year marriage with Juliet Bellajoux in France, which he says was good for five of those years. Petrovsky and Juliet have a daughter named Chloe; he doesn't wish more children, and to ensure this, he has had a vasectomy.

Aleksandr becomes Carrie's lover in the final season. Despite their age difference, he sweeps her off her feet with huge romantic gestures and shows her the foreign pockets of New York she has never seen before. He is divorced and has 1 child, a daughter named Chloe that lives in Paris who he visits with on Carrie's first day in Paris.

He is not a man of his word when it comes to his relationship with Carrie & his work gets in the way of their relationship. He often leaves her alone & bewildered, however he uses grand romantic gestures to make up for it.
