Biography[]

Trey MacDougal is the first husband of Charlotte York. They married but later got divorced. Part of their issues as a couple were often due to his mother's influence and his sexual difficulties; however, after they started trying to become parents, it was painfully obvious that Charlotte was the only one who wanted parenthood. This ultimately lead to their divorce.

Personality[]

Trey MacDougal is an attractive WASP, a charming gentleman with a pedigree as fine as Charlotte's. Trey is a cardiologist. He is noted to be an ideal catch even by her extremely picky standards. This took place in the year Charlotte decided she would be married. Charlotte soon learns that they have no compatibility in the bedroom. In season 3 episode 9, when Charlotte meets Trey's mother Bunny, Trey orders a drink of whiskey, causing his mother to squeeze his wrist and suggest that he orders a glass of red wine instead. Charlotte noticed that his mother constantly grabbed his wrist in that way, and Trey was unable to say no to her when she did. Charlotte eventually uses Bunny's wrist squeezing action to manipulate Trey's choice of salad and later on to suggest they get married. She nonchalantly proposes to him while squeezing his wrist like Bunny does, saying, “Let’s get married,” to which he responds, “Alrighty.” His inability to be successfully intimate with Charlotte begins after Charlotte uses this action he heavily associates with his Mother, creating a wedge between them and an unfulfilled desire in her. At one point, Charlotte makes out with a desirable gardener. Trey does not care, continuing to work on his tennis serve to distract himself. She then suggests separation. Charlotte later divorces Trey.

His family is from Scotland, and they are even wealthier than the Yorks. The undisputed head of the family is Trey's mother Bunny MacDougal, who rules with an steel hand in a silk glove. Bunny smothers Trey's manhood. Charlotte notices how Bunny manipulates the choices Trey makes and is able to successfully manipulate him in the same way in season 3 episode 9, explaining why Trey's intimacy issues developed with Charlotte. He seems quite content to remain her tenderly beloved boy for life. She even used to sit by his bath and personally nurse him when sick.
